I got obsessed with the Purified Horn of Duriel the same way a lot of people do: one good bossing session, then you want to optimise everything. You'll also find out fast it's not an item you "bump into" while questing. If you're trying to speed things up, even little choices matter, from your route planning to whether you stock up on cheap Diablo 4 items so you can stay focused on runs instead of constantly re-gearing between attempts.
Start with materials, not the dungeon
Most wasted hours come from walking into the Gaping Crevasse mindset first. Don't. Think like you're doing errands. Step one is Helltide for Living Steel, because Grigoire is your gatekeeper. Stick to tight clusters of events, clear fast, open the Living Steel chests, move on. Step two is Whispers for Varshan parts. I usually skip anything that drags, like slow escorts or awkward travel. Pick the quick dungeon whispers, elite kill zones, stuff you can blitz in and out. If you aren't stacking boss summons, you're not really "farming" Duriel yet.
Build for deletes, not for comfort
Duriel punishes slow setups. If you're built like a brick and doing steady damage, the fight turns into burrows, poison, and time loss. The goal is simple: burst him down before the run gets messy. HotA Barb is the classic "where did his health go" option. Bone Spear Necro still slaps if you're geared. Lightning Sorc is great when you can keep uptime. Rogue players, Rapid Fire tends to feel the cleanest for this loop. Prioritise Crit Chance, Vulnerable uptime, and whatever lets you front-load damage. You don't need a perfect build, just one that ends the fight fast.
Rotations beat solo every single time
Running alone is the quiet killer. One set of mats equals one summon, sure, but in a four-person rotation it equals four kills worth of loot. That's not "nice to have", it's the whole point. Find a group, agree on the order, and keep it strict. No wandering off, no "brb salvage", no long speeches after a drop. If someone's short on mats, swap them out. It sounds harsh, but it keeps the pace up and the mood way better.
Keep the tempo and stop babysitting your inventory
After the kill, grab loot, leave, reset, re-enter. Town is a trap. Dump everything in stash and sort later, because the real advantage comes from runs per hour. If you need a quick boost to stay in that loop—mats, gear pieces, or a bit of currency to finish an upgrade—sites like u4gm can be handy since you can top up fast and get straight back to Duriel instead of losing your rhythm.
